The wildflowers are on the mountainside not because they want to be, but because they can be; there is room there, and everything it needs. Similarly to mankind; from its alleged origin in Africa to the spread around the world the species has been shown to be able to adapt and flourish. For their achievement, both the flower and mankind have been rewarded with beauty and character. As for the misfires and eventual hits, that has been the story of evolution has it not? And still we probe reality with our experiments and calculations, and many times new important knowledge is gained by accident, as probably the invention of fire was, and certainly the invention of penicillin, the essential staining of the tubercle bacillus, and now the accidental stimulation of a memory area of the human brain during a routine stimulation for another reason causing a dramatic increase in memory. So we do in daily life in many aspects. Our aims are noble and true, but something often happens to divert the missile. But the ultimate goal is to eventually make most of our firings hits, EG, Calgary
