Saturday Dec. 2, 2006 – my Alberta
thanks to those who wrote yesterday, especially KT; it has been a long while, hope all is at Banderas Bay, special thanks too Jim Dinning; I appreciate you taking time from your hectic schedule to respond to me and to all of you
my family moved to Alberta March 13, 1960; it was a day not unlike this one – brilliant blue sky, awesome mountains; a few days later we settled into a simple life in Red Deer, where this 3rd grader learned that Social Studies was called Enterprise, and a cute blonde named Linda Hoveland taught me how to sing ‘When it’s springtime in the Rockies’ in music class
the rest of the past 46 years is a blur of memories, opportunities pursued, ups and downs, loves and loves lost, but a love of this place called 'my Alberta' endures, a place rich in so many ways where things are constantly changing, yet so many more never do; value, values, freedom, hard work, beautiful places, rich resources and a pioneering spirit that continues whatever generation you are part of
this evening ballots will be tallied, leadership of the PC government will change; it is important which is why so many Albertans are engaged in making that heady decision
come Monday, this blue sky and awesome mountains will still be there, 3rd graders will trundle off to school to learn what an awesome place this is – springtime or any time
somewhere there will be a new 3rd grader who just moved here from somewhere else; Enterprise is now called Social Studies but cute blondes still sing in music class; it may not be springtime, but Alberta is where I am and where I want to be
