Sunday Oct. 30, 2005 - Year 3, Day 223 - fowl words

-3C / 27 F, brilliantly sunny quiet interrupted by honking squawking geese landing on the lagoon across the road – not enough for a flock, more than a gaggle – they are saying ‘why go south, it’s really nice here in Calgary’, maybe they are saying much more

they’ve come down with arctic air flow, origins many thousands of miles away where they spent summer raising young & vacationing - they probably stopped in Yellowknife or Fort Smith or Edmonton . . to rest & refuel
"GOOSE, n. A bird that supplies quills for writing. These, by some occult process of nature, are penetrated and suffused with various degrees of the bird's intellectual energies and emotional character, so that when inked and drawn mechanically across paper by a person called an "author," there results a very fair and accurate transcript of the fowl's thought and feeling. The difference in geese, as discovered by this ingenious method, is considerable: many are found to have only trivial and insignificant powers, but some are seen to be very great geese indeed."
- Ambrose Bierce
just when we least expect it, the phone might ring with a new opportunity, or an email might arrive with sage advice, or a thought will connect with an item on the page will connect with somebody and that conversation will connect with something new & old all at the same time

my Saturday was a magical collision of people & ideas day . . today will be too

as I venture into uncharted water I need advice from many sources on a variety of issues, while screening out some sources diplomatically

openly seeking advice is something I have not done often enough in the past

time to change that – I’ll start by listening to those geese

SM’s 50th party last night was superbly stylish & cool - thanks for inviting me
